What AuthPass does

AuthPass is a password manager for KeePass databases written with Flutter, so one code base produces apps for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and Linux and a version that runs in the browser. It reads and writes KDBX 3 and 4 files, the format used by KeePassXC and the other KeePass apps, and it can also create new databases. The interface is the same on every platform, which is its main difference from setups that combine separate KeePass apps on each device.

Files can be opened from the device or through built-in connectors for Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive and WebDAV servers such as Nextcloud and ownCloud. When the file changed elsewhere, AuthPass detects the conflict and merges the two versions automatically. Entries can hold TOTP secrets, and the app can import codes from Google Authenticator’s export QR codes.

Security and encryption

AuthPass uses the KeePass security model: the whole database is one encrypted KDBX file, unlocked with a master password, a key file or both. KDBX 4 files with Argon2 key derivation are supported, and the file options allow upgrading an older file to KDBX 4. On phones, the master password can be stored in the platform keystore or keychain behind fingerprint or face unlock. Cloud storage providers only receive the encrypted file. Android has used autofill for some time, and the 1.9.12 release of August 2026 added AutoFill on iOS for Safari and apps.

Neither the website nor the repository documents an independent security audit.

Self-hosting AuthPass

There is nothing to host: AuthPass is a client app, installed from the Apple, Google Play and Microsoft stores, Flathub, Snapcraft, the project’s Debian repository or GitHub releases. If you want sync without a commercial cloud, point it at your own WebDAV server, for example a Nextcloud instance; the documentation has a guide for that setup.

Hosted version

No account or vault hosting is required. The changelog records an optional AuthPass Cloud backend, introduced as a beta in version 1.9.1 in 2021 for storing and sharing password files, but the website does not describe it, so treat the app as a client for files you store yourself.

Limitations

Releases have been irregular: version 1.9.11 shipped in February 2024 and 1.9.12 in August 2026. The user documentation is thin, and the README roadmap still lists auto-type on macOS and auto-lock after inactivity as open items. There is no browser extension, and no audit is documented. Passkey support is not mentioned.

Who it suits

AuthPass fits people who want one familiar KeePass app on every device, including Linux and iOS, and who sync their file through Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or their own WebDAV server. Users who prefer platform-specific apps with longer track records can combine KeePassXC with KeePassDX or Keepass2Android on Android and KeePassium on Apple devices.
