Open source alternatives to Netlify
Netlify popularized deploying sites straight from Git with a preview for every change. These open source platforms build and serve static sites and web apps with previews on servers you control.
3 alternatives, sorted by GitHub stars as of 21 October 2026. Reviewed .
-
Coolify
Self-hosted platform for deploying apps, databases and one-click services to any server over SSH
-
Dokploy
Self-hosted PaaS for apps, Docker Compose stacks and databases, built on Docker Swarm and Traefik
-
ZaneOps
Self-hosted platform for apps, static sites, databases and Compose stacks, with preview environments
What Netlify does
Netlify is a hosted platform for building and deploying websites and web apps. Projects deploy from Git, the API or AI tools, and every change can get a deploy preview or branch deploy before it goes live. Sites are served from a global CDN with custom domains and TLS. Around that core, Netlify adds serverless functions, edge functions, Netlify Forms for collecting form submissions without a backend, blob storage, an image CDN and a database, plus firewall rules and rate limiting.
Why people look for an alternative
- A new pricing model. Since 4 September 2025, all new Netlify accounts use credit-based plans, in which production deploys, compute, bandwidth, web requests and other usage draw on a monthly credit allotment. Accounts created earlier are on Legacy plans, and switching to credits cannot be undone.
- Paused sites when credits run out. On the Personal and Pro plans, if the credit balance is used up and auto recharge is off, projects are paused and show a “Site not available” page, and new deploys and form submissions stop until credits are available again.
- A hard limit on the free plan. The Free plan has a fixed monthly credit limit with no way to buy more.
- Platform features to unpick. Forms, functions, edge functions and Netlify’s redirect configuration are specific to the platform and need a replacement when you move.
- Control over hosting. Some teams prefer a fixed server bill and a known hosting location over usage-based billing on a global network.
What to compare in an alternative
- Static site builds. Whether your site generator’s output can be built and served directly, without writing a Dockerfile.
- Deploy previews. Per pull request environments and which Git hosts they work with.
- Replacements for platform features. Forms, functions and redirects become your own backend code or reverse proxy rules.
- CDN and TLS. Self-hosted platforms issue certificates automatically but serve from your servers; add a CDN if visitors are spread worldwide.
- Cost model. A fixed server cost versus credits that depend on traffic and deploys.
Which one to choose
Coolify has a dedicated static build pack, automatic deploys on push and pull-request previews, with no paid-only features when self-hosted. Dokploy also offers a static build type and previews through its GitHub integration, on top of Docker Swarm. ZaneOps includes a static-directory builder, preview environments for GitHub and GitLab, and HTTP request logs, with a three-user limit on unlicensed instances. For more on the differences, read the deployment platforms guide.
