What Dolibarr does

Dolibarr is a business suite in which the CRM is one group of modules among many. Its customer side starts with third parties, a single record type that can be a customer, a prospect, a supplier or several of these at once, each with its own contacts. From there a sale moves through commercial proposals (which customers can sign online), customer orders, contracts or subscriptions, interventions and finally invoices and payments, all linked to the same third party.

Opportunities are handled through the Projects module. When the option to follow leads and opportunities is switched on, each project gets an opportunity status, a probability of winning and an amount, and the statuses come from a dictionary you can edit. An opportunity is therefore a project with extra fields, which suits companies where a won deal turns into delivery work.

For marketing and service, Dolibarr includes mass emailing, surveys, a ticket system with a knowledge base and a shared agenda that can import and export iCal and vCal files. Beyond the CRM, the same installation can run stock and warehouses, manufacturing, purchasing, point of sale, accounting, expense reports, leave and recruitment. Every module is optional, so a team can start with third parties, proposals and invoices and leave the rest switched off.

Email and integrations

Dolibarr has no built-in webmail, which the README lists among the things it cannot do yet. Outgoing email is sent from records such as proposals and invoices, and the Email Collector module reads an IMAP mailbox and applies rules to incoming messages: it can record them as events on the matching contact, open support tickets or create opportunities for a sales team.

Other integrations include REST and SOAP APIs, LDAP, click-to-dial and payment platforms such as PayPal and Stripe. The DoliStore marketplace sells and distributes add-ons from third-party developers, and the low-code Module Builder lets you create your own objects and screens.

Self-hosting Dolibarr

Dolibarr runs on any web server with PHP and needs MySQL 5.7.7 or later, MariaDB 10.3 or later, or PostgreSQL 9.1 or later. Version 24.0.0, released on 20 August 2026, supports PHP 7.2 to 8.5. The documented minimum is modest: a PHP memory limit of 128 MB and about 150 MB of disk for the program files.

You can unpack the release archive and run the web installer, clone a release branch from GitHub, use the DoliWamp or DoliDeb packages, or run the official Docker image, which contains only the application and is paired with a MariaDB or MySQL container in the documented Compose file. Upgrades are done by replacing the files and following the install page, and the project says it can upgrade installations from any version after 2.8.

Hosted version

The Dolibarr project does not run a hosted service of its own. Its wiki lists ready-to-use SaaS offers from preferred partners, such as DoliCloud, Easya Solutions, DoliOnDemand and DoliPlace, several of which offer a free trial. Support contracts and custom development also come from partners.

Limitations

Dolibarr is organized around business documents (proposals, orders, invoices) more than around a sales pipeline: opportunities are an option of the Projects module, and there is no two-way mailbox sync of the kind sales-focused CRMs offer. The README also notes missing task dependencies and payroll. Specialized needs are often met with paid DoliStore add-ons, which are not covered by the GPL core.

Who it suits

Dolibarr fits small and mid-sized businesses, associations and freelancers that want customer records, quotes, orders and invoices in one application on ordinary PHP hosting. Teams whose main need is managing a sales pipeline will be better served by a dedicated CRM; see the CRM guide. For a larger ERP with a dedicated CRM app, compare it with Odoo.

License details

GPL-3.0-or-later. Some bundled dependencies use other licenses (listed in COPYRIGHT). Add-ons sold on the DoliStore marketplace are separate products with their own terms.
